Ennead

from Feathers of Ma'at by Ben Miller

/

about

This is the only song where I’m featured playing Fender Rhodes, and it’s the only blues piece on the album. The title refers to a group of nine deities worshiped in the ancient Egyptian city of Heliopolis. The myths surrounding the deities of the Ennead contain profound truths about the qualities of numbers, their relations, and other numerological principles. In this piece, I set out to create a synergy between two triads of the hexatonic scale, a nod to the concept of “three to the power of two,” a mathematical term that equals nine.
