La Historia de Eréndira

about

This is a rhapsodic romp in a seven meter and has some beautiful playing by Kalí. In his opening salvo there are moments which recall the great jazz trumpet players whose roots are in swing and hard bop, guys like Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, but at no point does Kalí do this by sounding like them, rather it is in the way he dives in with so much heart and soul that he brings these masters to mind. Gabriel brings arhythmic structures around the meter and plays with the time as if he is free of it until he finally sheds the rhythm section altogether and solos through the cadenza. I'm not sure if this is based on the great Gabriel García Márquez store but there is much drama and heart rendering in this piece.
