An homage to the middle pillar of the Qabalistic Tree of Life from esoteric lore, this tune walks the line between two contrasting archetypes of jazz composition: the modal “canvas” that allows players the freedom to stretch out and swing in a post-bop idiom, and the rigid structure of fast-moving chord changes commonly found in bebop. When I say “canvas,” I’m referring to an elegant formal logic that gives the musicians space to exercise their creativity. Despite its asymmetrical phrase structure and tricky chord changes, there’s something grounded about the flow of harmonies that makes Wise Path play like a “canvas” tune.

This album captivated me quickly. The listener can hear the high energy of New York through their instrumentation and I love It! One example of this I throughly enjoy is their implementation of accelerando (speeding up the tempo) throughout songs. If you enjoy contemporary jazz this album is worth your attention.
