This is a tribute to another explorer, Wayne Shorter. Full of Wayne's quizzical and majestic melodic construction yet seamlessly folded into Latin rhythms as if this is the way Wayne envisioned it. Kalí's solo is a perfect example of multi-culturally informed improvisation, employing the languages of declamatory sonero statements before launching into jazz-influenced flights of fantasy. Kazemde's solo is a study in leanness and melody. Check out the fluid stance of the rhythm section playing through highly structured arrangements with such relaxedness that is never seems as if the arrangement is more important than the groove.

This could’ve been my album of the year if I’d noticed it. Hell. 2020, feeling like shit and then this musical balm appears. Live recording on one mic. Just bass and harp. Awesome. It swings like a pendulum do! Big shout out for Dezron’s love of coffee. I now have 2 of his albums and he’s proselytising on behalf of coffee on both. Damn right ☕️

This is a wonderful album! Dave Douglas is one of my heroes. He's more than a great musician. He has a vision for the music and a feeling for putting together a group which is unique. So, beside Joey Baron (another heavyweight and one of my absolute favourite drummers) he invited some young cats to this session. They play just great and make sure that this music sounds totally fresh, whilst at the same time being deeply rooted in the jazz tradition.
